FIFO worker in court after striking police officer in CBD

GLADSTONE Magistrate Russell Warfield has effectively shown one FIFO worker the door, making it clear aggression towards police officers will not be tolerated.

Shannon John Kearns pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to two charges last week, including one count of assaulting or obstructing a police officer and failing to leave licensed premises.

The offences occurred just before midnight on March 1.

The court heard Kearns had been removed from the Reef Hotel after harassing female patrons.

Outside the venue police were forced to push Kearns away from security staff.

Kearns then struck a police officer on the shoulder with an open palm in retaliation.

He was arrested and taken to the watchhouse.

Magistrate Warfield was blunt during his sentencing, making it clear to Kearns his behaviour was unacceptable.

"If you don't like Gladstone you're free to leave; I don't care," he said.

Kearns avoided conviction but was fined $800 and banned from three CBD venues for six months.
