Police seize 8000 child porn photos, cartoons and videos

A MARYBOROUGH man will not go to prison despite having thousands of real and cartoon images of child pornography.

The 27-year-old pleaded guilty on Wednesday at the Maryborough District Court to distributing and possessing child exploitation material.

The court heard that in January 2013, the man commented on an online forum that he was looking to better his collection of girls two to 16 years.

He was contacted by an undercover police officer and proceeded to send the officer a video, claiming it was his 13-year-old ex-girlfriend stripping.

In the video, police observed a pre-pubescent girl dancing and removing her clothes.

A few months later a search was conducted at the man's home, where authorities seized his laptop and external hard drive.

The files found included 353 naked child images, two child sex images, three adult-child sex images, four adult-child penetrative images, one sadism or bestiality image and 7634 cartoon pictures depicting child pornography.

Crown prosecutor Sam Bain said police also discovered 39 child porn videos.

Defence barrister Neville Weston said his client had been on a disability pension for depression since leaving high school a decade ago.

He said the depression had led to poor decision making.

Mr Weston said a man of his client's age was usually mature with ideas about what they wanted but his client had drifted aimlessly for the past decade.

Judge Nicholas Samios sentenced the man to two years probation for distribution and one year imprisonment, to be served as intensive correction, for possessing.
