Man arrested after three-year-old left in crashed car

ONE man was arrested after a child was found alone at the scene of a car crash in Kingscliff.

About 11am Saturday, Tweed-Byron LAC police were alerted to reports of a stolen car with a child on board.

Police say the car, a Holden Commodore sedan, had hit a tree in Vulcan St, Kingscliff.

When they arrived, police and paramedics discovered a three-and-a-half-year-old girl in the back seat of the crashed vehicle.

The girl was uninjured and was still in her car seat.

While there was reportedly no sign of the driver, a man in his 40s, believed to be the girl's fathers, was arrested a short distance away.

He was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station and was assisting police with investigations into the incident.

While investigations are ongoing, it's understood a child-at-risk notification will be made to Family and Community Services.

Anyone with information about this incident should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
