Man allegedly used samurai sword in brutal attack

UPDATE: A 39-year-old Manunda man has been charged after he allegedly assaulted a 48-year-old Earlville man with a Samurai sword.

Cairns detectives charged the man with one count each of going armed to cause fear and wounding.

It is alleged the man went to James St, Manunda where he assaulted the man who recieved a non-life threatening cut on his hand.

Police arrested the 39-year-old in Little St, Manunda and seized the Samurai sword.

He will appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today.

EARLIER: Police have taken a man who was allegedly wielding a sword, into custody yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services were originally called to James St but the arrest was made at Little St, Manunda just after 5.15pm.

A 48-year-old man with lacerations to one hand was taken to Cairns hospital.
