Man allegedly tried to strangle police officer

A MAN has allegedly struck a police officer in the face before attempting to strangle him. 

A group of people had been fighting at the Mt Isa Racecourse when police came in to break it up.

The assault took place as officers attempted to break up the group. 

Other officers helped and the man was taken into custody.

A 29-year-old male Constable was transported to Mount Isa Hospital to treat bruising to the face and concussion.

A 25-year-old Soldiers Hill man has been charged with serious assault police and obstruct police.

He is due to appear in in Mount Isa Magistrates Courts on September 26.
