Man airlifted after being injured by angle grinder

A MAN was airlifted from Heron Island on Sunday afternoon after being injured during maintenance work.

The 24-year-old suffered chest injuries when the angle grinder he was using snagged on metal, propelling the spinning grinding blade into his chest.

He was stabilised at the island by the medical staff.

When the RACQ Capricorn Rescue helicopter arrived, the man was assessed and prepared for the flight by the intensive care paramedic and doctor.

He patient was transferred to Rockhampton where he is undergoing further treatment.
