Young music lovers learn from state's best

THE state's best musicians added another string to the bows of young music lovers from across the region over the past four days.

The Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) gave youngsters like Gladstone State High School students Emma, 14, Hayley, 14, Josh, 12, a taste of things to come during a series of hands-on workshops that started on Monday and will end today.

Primary and secondary-school pupils scored lessons on string and woodwind instruments.

The sessions included teacher and adult community musician development.

The QSO will return to Gladstone on August 14 to conduct a session for brass instrumental students.

A schools concert, led by conductor Jessica Cottis, will be held on August 15 at the Gladstone Marina Stage.

The concert will include classics such as Vivaldi's The Four Seasons and Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite.

The sessions were made possible through the Gladstone Enrichment through Music Initiative.
