Major trail run being organised on Curtis Island

GLADSTONE Road Runners are organising a trail run on Curtis Island in May.

Promoting the event, organisers said the trail running community was gathering momentum, and was constantly looking to put on a variety of events in unspoilt areas.

Runners will take a harbour cruise across to Curtis Island, arriving at South End.

>> Fun run will have all the colours of the rainbow

The race precinct will be located at Capricorn Lodge on Seaview Esplanade.

After a pre-race briefing, runners will set off at 10am, taking on a 13km run or a 6km run.

The run course will head around the township of South End before tracking north on the inland road towards the headland known as the Bluff.

Participants in the shorter event will detour and head towards the ocean before tackling the sand dunes, then run on to the beach at Blue Rocks and head for home along the beach.

Participants in the longer distance will continue on the inland road until they arrive at the Bluff, and will be able to take a drink at the aid station after having completed 8km.

They will then run down the headland across the sand dunes and on to the beach for the 5km run home.

The run will be followed by a barbecue lunch.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to the South End Progress Association and the South End Rural Fire Brigade.

Online registration opened today for the run on May 9.
