Queensland Bulls' Jimmy Maher pads up for challenge

ONLY 26 days remain until the Industries of Gladstone Cricket Challenge and Queensland Bulls Masters player Jimmy Maher has made a stop in Gladstone to welcome sponsors and players.

In a quick stop in town, Maher caught up with new sponsors Sims Metal and first-time player from The Glen Robbie Woof to welcome them on board for this year's event.

After being involved in the previous year's, Clive Wales and Sims Metal are this year sponsoring the cricket weekend, and are keen to see the action begin.

"We have done the board but taken a step up this year," Wales said.

"It is good to see the boys come up from Brisbane and bring something to the town."

For Woof, the surprise of being asked to play a couple of weeks ago is still buzzing in his head.

The fast bowler for The Glen in ready to step up to the mark and throw everything he has got at the Bulls Masters.

"It was a big shock actually," he said. "I thought Nev Judd was joking, it will certainly be a thrill."

Maher is looking forward to coming back to Gladstone as well, always receiving a warm welcome from locals.

This year, the Bulls Masters are making a tour of Central Queensland, visiting Rockhampton as well as the local matches.

"To be able to spread ourselves across central Queensland is great," the Bulls legend said. "A lot of us are from regional centres so we love to get back to the bush."
