Magpies, Marlins in big showdown
BOTH clubs are talking up tonight's local derby between Miriam Vale and Agnes Water in the Northern Districts Rugby League as one of the match-ups of the season.
Magpies club stalwart and committee member Owen Harms said: "They don't get much bigger than this."
"Honours have been evenly shared so far this year, with each team, having one win, one loss and one draw against each other.
"With finals looming and all-important semi-final spots up for grabs, the match shapes up as being fiercely contested and an epic encounter not to be missed."
And Marlins coach Geoff Fitzgerald too rates the game as a key to the newcomers' season.
"This weekend's game is a must-win if we want to challenge for a top two spot," Fitzgerald said.
Both sides incurred losses last round; with the ladder-leading Magpies going down to an in-form South Kolan and the Marlins going down to Avondale.
Now with five rounds to go until the semis, they are both aware of the South Kolan surge and still cannot discount Avondale.
Fitzgerald and Harms said their respective teams were missing key players last week and were looking forward to a number returning for the big clash at Gary Larson Oval.
"Both teams have strong forward packs, with the match-up between Aaron Causton and Glen Cox of Miriam Vale against Darren Brennan and Timmy Macintosh of the Marlins set to be brutal," Harms said.
