Magic Millions race day crowd smaller but still stylish

THE crowd was smaller but just as spirited at the Gladstone Turf Club's Magic Millions race day.

In fact there were some benefits to be had at Saturday's event for those who did go, with the smaller crowd meaning there was more room in the shade and shorter queues for cold beers and refreshments.

Racegoer Lauren Larsen said the day was an ideal social occasion between New Year's events and Australia Day celebrations.

"It's good to get out and about in Gladstone," she said.

The fashions worn on the day typically had a more laidback vibe than previous race days, although many women in the marquees still dressed to impress.

The first race day of the year historically attracts a smaller crowd and organisers are hopeful that the Valentine's Race Day on Saturday, February 15 will be more popular.

Race day tables and marquee bookings are available at www.gladstoneturfclub.com.au.

Bookings are limited, so get in early.
