Fans to pucker up for rock legends
COULD it be true?
Only time will tell, but there are certainly some strong rumours that the American rock legends renowned for painted faces, outrageous costumes, fire breathing, blood spitting and levitating drum kits are coming to town.
Yes, I'm talking about Kiss.
And the rumour is the rockers are one of the big name international acts heading our way.
When the Blondie concert was announced two weeks ago, Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre manager Mark Fawcett said there would be two other international acts following Blondie's lead.
Though Mr Fawcett would not comment on who is or isn't coming to town yesterday, there has been a confirmation by front man Paul Stanley himself that Kiss will be in the country in 2013.
A news report on music website noise11.com, stated:
"Last month Tommy Lee tweeted that Kiss and Motley Crue would be touring Australia in January, 2013 and today Paul Stanley confirmed the tour on the David Letterman show," the website read.
"Stanley said Kiss were about to do a tour of South America and will then head to Australia."
This apparently led to a flurry of comment by Kiss Army Australia fans - yes, this is the band that comes equipped with its own "army" or legion of fanatical face-painted fans.
Several other reliable sources close to the promoter were contacted about the possibility of the band coming to Mackay but they would not confirm the tour.
However, they have said to expect an announcement next week.
Kiss had its beginnings as a band called Wicked Lester almost 40 years ago.
In 1973 when lead guitarist Ace Frehley joined Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and Peter Criss, they changed their name to Kiss.
They went on to record 37 albums, the latest being Monster, which was released in Australia last month.
A definite announcement on just who will play at Mackay's Virgin Australia Stadium early next year will be made on Wednesday next week.
