Mackay Meteorettes to Grand Final

The Mackay Meteorettes have won a thriller to book a place in tomorrow night's Grand Final.

The second semi final of the night, between Mackay Meteorettes and the Bundy Bears went down to the dying seconds, with the lead changing hands constantly throughout the final quarter. Neither team was able to break free.

In the end, the Meteorettes won 82-79, although even that 3-point margin exaggerated the difference between the sides.

With 55 seconds left on the clock, the Bears snatched a 1 point lead and looked as though they might pull away from the Meteorettes.

However, after a frantic sequence of plays dominated by tight defense, the Meteorettes were sent to the free-throw line, courtesy of a Bundy foul.

Both shots were nailed, returning a 1 point lead to the northerners.

From that moment, Bundy were always going to need a desperate play to win and in the dying seconds, some intense defense from Mackay blocked the Bears last roll of the dice.

With 7 seconds to go, the Bears were sent to the free throw, and once again nailed both shots.

The scoreboard showing 82-79, the Bears needed a 3-pointer to draw level, but a rushed shot bounced of the ring.

The Meteorettes will play against Port City Power in the Grand Final tomorrow night.
