Monday male is lukewarm at footy but hot on the ice

ROLLERBLADING as a child armed Jonathan Rieck with the necessary skills to carve up the ice rink as an adult.

Spotted on the weekend displaying great speed and agility at Winter Magic ice rink, 34-year-old Mr Rieck is this week's Monday Male.

Mr Rieck says he knew there had to be at least one sport he could excel at. It was just a matter of time finding it, the skater said.

"I was bloody hopeless at every other sport, football, soccer, everything," he laughed.

"But for some reason, I rule at ice skating."

A technician by trade, Mr Rieck explains his occupation as "generally just fixing anything with a blinking light".

Camping at Agnes Water, stencilling, drawing and performing music are just some of the hobbies he likes to engage in during his much sought-after spare time these days.

"I like to pretend I can sing," he joked. "Any type of music except for country music - I can't stand it."

Acting as Santa's helper at his recent Christmas party, Mr Rieck was impressed at his own transformation.

"I didn't make any children cry," he said. "So that's always an achievement."

Friends Miles Clarke and Nikola Ballinger were also having fun at the ice rink.

However, they were quick to correct Mr Rieck, saying there was, in fact, one child who had been unimpressed with his costume.
