Low rate rise greets Rocky, but what's in store for Gladdy?

A GENERAL rate rise of just 1.9% greeted Rockhampton rate payers yesterday when the 2015/2016 budget was released.

Our neighbour's budget includes a debt reduction of $4 million over three years and a plan to bring another 10,000 people into the CBD by encouraging people to live above apartment buildings.

That plan includes the redevelopment of river side Quay St and an esplanade to create what Mayor Margaret Strelow Strelow said would be "a fitting frontage" for the heritage buildings.

Gladstone Regional Council will hand down its budget on Monday, July 6 at 11am.
