HUSBANDS, wives and partners of residents at New Auckland Place were invited to a special Valentine's Day celebration on Thursday.

Diversional therapist Lindy Fry-Mitchell said lots of partners visited for Valentine's Day every year.

"We try making it really special for them. It's really lovely," she said.

The loved up couples had a choice of two different styles of entertainment.

Upstairs featured Just Us, a country and western band featuring Liz Green, Les Green and Roy Raines.

The band plays at the aged care facility once a month, and has been doing so for at least 16 years.

Downstairs had a more romantic style of music with BJ Davidson playing some old classics.

And after many years of marriage, love was still very much in the air for some couples.

Helen and John Baillie have been married for 60 years.

"We're very happy and still in love," Mrs Baillie said.

The couple met at a poker game.

"John said, 'If I win this hand, I'm taking Helen out to a movie' and he won," she said.

They enjoyed their day tuning in to BJ Davidson before having a lovely lunch.
