Loud lippy all the rage as month focuses on mental health
PUCKER UP, Gladstone. This month local ladies - and men - are wearing loud lipstick shades to celebrate new women's fundraiser Liptember.
Gladstone resident Amanda Styles and her Chemist Warehouse co-workers are sporting bright lips every day this month to raise awareness of women's mental health.
While the event may be a bit of fun for some, Amanda also has a personal connection to the cause.
When she was 19 Amanda lost her mother to cancer. Amanda was later diagnosed and treated for depression.
"I didn't think I had depression. I thought I was still grieving for my mum," Amanda said.
"While my father and brothers were supportive, I didn't really have anyone else to open up to."
The cause has been so popular in town that local Liptember stockist Chemist Warehouse has already sold out of the special lipsticks.
Amanda said more should be done to raise awareness of women's mental health issues in the area.
"Each year more people are getting behind Daffodil Day, Pink Ribbon Day and Movember. The more awareness raised, the more likely people will seek help for their health issues."
Proceeds raised from Liptember will go to the Centre for Women's Mental Health and Lifeline Australia.
