What to do when your pet goes missing

WHAT can you do when a loved pet suddenly vanishes? As days go by you realise there are only limited options.

Maybe your pet has gotten lost (if prone to wandering the neighbourhood) and travelled far from familiar territory; been hurt and is incapacitated somewhere; or the pet has been stolen/taken in by someone without checking for owner contact details.

When it's a friendly and cute pet, people have less motivation to track down legal owners.

Awareness should be created by regular notifications and advertising to make people aware of microchipping becoming the mainstream option for identifying owners and missing pets.

With the registration of cats being introduced, there is further chance of finding owner details.

Please entreat Gladstone residents to take strays or to report sightings to the Facebook Lost Pet Coordinator - Gladstone Region page, or advise the Gladstone Regional Council so its website can be updated with lost and found information.

Thank you.
