Lone male entry in cooking comp

HE might be the only male entry in this year’s Gladstone Show cooking category but Rob Kidd’s chocolate cake is definitely not half-baked.

The Zinc Radio breakfast announcer yesterday hand-delivered his entry to Gladstone Show Society secretary/manager Robyn Reddacliff who was extremely happy to accept the chocolate cake.

“He’s very game,” Ms Reddacliff joked.

Busy preparing the show pavilion for tomorrow’s show, Ms Reddacliff has been inundated with artwork, needlework, handicraft, photography, cake, jam, butter and pickle which have been steadily streaming in since the weekend.

Ms Reddacliff said many pavilion entries had been received this year, in particular the children’s art section which was boasting record numbers.

She said the layout of the fine arts pavilion would be slightly different to cater for the increased art entries.

Mr Kidd said he had been dared by work colleague Carli Hobbs to enter, but was happy with the result.

“It was a challenge because Carli didn’t think I could come up with the goods,” Mr Kidd said.

“The recipe is stolen ... it’s from Carli’s mum.”
