Local man to open tapas restaurant in Tannum Sands

PETER Hagan has worked as an electrician and project manager, but now he is taking on the hospitality industry.

Mr Hagan plans to open a tapas bar, Tapas de Vino, at the corner of Pacific Ave and Ocean St in Tannum Sands before September.

For years he has toyed with the idea of opening a restaurant in the region to fill a gap in the eatery market.

He has been unemployed for nine months, and says the opportunity came at the right time.

His last job was at a Blackall mine as project manager.

"When I saw that premise (at Tannum Sands) was available I thought, wow, there's the opportunity just staring me in the face," he said.

With his only experience as a restaurant customer, Mr Hagan knows it will be a challenge.

"It's going to be funky, but classy too, which is a hard thing to marry up," he said.

He and friend Carol Morris developed the idea.
