LNP vow on zonal fishing
GLADSTONE would benefit from a Liberal National Party plan to protect fishing communities and the marine environment if elected at this month's Federal election.
LNP-endorsed candidate for Flynn Ken O'Dowd said the LNP would immediately suspend the marine bio-regional planning process.
“We will establish sensible and balanced marine park boundaries and management plans in consultation with industry,” he said.
“The Marine Protected Areas will be based on science with all evidence of threats to marine biodiversity made available to all stakeholders in a fair and balanced consultation process.”
Mr O'Dowd said the LNP supported a balanced approach to marine conservation and fishermen should be concerned that Labor has plans for large no-take zones.
