LNP boss: Tim Nicholls a 'worthy successor' to Newman

LNP president Bruce McIver says he would support whoever the parliamentary party chose as its leader, but predicted Campbell Newman would be Premier for a long time.

Rumours continue to swirl about potential leadership contenders should the LNP win the 2015 Queensland election but Mr Newman lose his seat of Ashgrove.

Mr McIver was asked on Fairfax Radio 4BC if he thought Treasurer Tim Nicholls would be a worthy successor.

"There's a number of worthy successors, and he'd be one," he told host Patrick Condren.

"But that's not my call, that's the call of the party room at the time, and Campbell Newman's our Premier and he'll be there for a long time."
