Items stolen from woman's yard

Scarness woman believes drunks are stealing from her garden

A SCARNESS woman is willing to donate her garden lights to thieves to keep them from coming on to her property.

Four months ago, Irene Carrall made the move to Hervey Bay from Brisbane for a relaxing lifestyle change.

"I thought it was lovely and quiet and you wouldn't have the idiots," she said.

But the woman, who is on a disability pension due to a bad back, has encountered problems with drunks in the area stealing items from her front lawn and patio.

Since she moved to Scarness her garden decorations have been stolen.

"First of all it was the letterbox," she said.

Ms Carrall, who lives on her own, said the drunks had tossed it in a vacant lot next to her home.

"I figure it just got too heavy so they've tossed it," she said.

And 10 solar-powered garden lights her son had given her for Christmas were taken last week.

"If they were so desperate and badly needed garden lights all they had to do was come ask me," she said.

"I seriously would've given them a couple."

Acknowledging they're only small items stolen, Ms Carrall said the fear was more concerning.

"They've come up on the patio ... it's not big amounts of money but it's fear that they give you."

Her property manager, Ray White, will have her patio enclosed for security.

Police security tips

  • Lock your home and ensure valuables are kept out of sight
  • Ensure your main entry area to your home is well lit
