HOG'S Breath Cafe is a step closer to Gladstone.

Councillors yesterday voted in favour of a development application for a new area at Kirkwood Shopping Centre.

The development will include a Hog's Breath Cafe.

The franchisee of the new restaurant, Alex Staines, was thrilled with the result.

"We should be opening our doors at Hog's Breath in mid-2013," Mr Staines said.

"All the growth in Gladstone is out in that direction. I think Gladstone needs a Hog's Breath Cafe because there is a limited amount of family friendly dining venues."

The restaurant will employ about 60 people.

The development application was discussed at length by the councillors.

Some at the meeting had concerns about the space allowed for semi-trailers entering the shopping centre.
