Phil Baker is going for a fish

With 70% of the votes counted in Flynn and Mr Baker sitting 13,000 votes behind Labor's Zac Beers, Mr Baker will have to win almost all of the remaining votes to steal an unlikely victory.

The local law enforcement officer is taking it in his stride hanging out with family and friends and possibly going for a fish.

Mr O'Dowd's primary vote has taken a hit, down 9.5% on the 2013 election where he mustered 46%.

But after the flow of preferences, Mr O'Dowd is now just leading Labor rival Zac Beers 51.48% to 48.52%, leaving Mr O'Dowd saying "too early to call".

"I'll have to wait a little bit longer I'm afraid before I can be confident that I've won the seat, so time is the essence," he said.

Mr O'Dowd said he's "a little bit tired but a little bit anxious" both about the Coalition's prospects of winning Government with a majority and for his own seat.

Mr O'Dowd said he's also worried for his supporters and staff, saying "if I go, they would go".

"And I feel sorry for the other candidates too who put in a good effort across the board," he said.

"There was nine of us, only one can win, and that's the way it is -- I hope I'm the winner but I'm not going to call it yet."
