Video: Botanic to Bridge fundrun reached capacity this year
THE BIGGEST fun-run event to sweep the Gladstone Region has proved to be a hit success yet again after its sixth year of running.
Over the last five years the Botanic to Bridge event has raised over $200,000 which went directly back into the community.
This year's Gladstone Ports Corporation's annual Botanic to Bridge saw over 4000 participants ranging from 7 months to 70 years old take part - all in the aid of charity.
A total of $20,000 was raised and will be donated to the Pyjama Foundation while a further $20,000 went towards resource funding for local primary and secondary schools.
A GPC spokesperson said the day was highly successful with the amount of people engaging in the event.
"It was a fantastic day with everyone getting involved - more and more people are starting to really enjoy it," she said.
"With all the funds raised going directly back into the community and the amount of people we had participating, it was another very successful year for the Botanic to Bridge.
"It's also a great way to promote a healthy and active lifestyle while encouraging people to have some fun while doing it."
Gladstone resident Tia-Clair Toomey, who recently competed in the Reebok World Games and finished second overall, was the officia starter for both the 3km and the 8 km events, much to the participants' delight.
The 8 km race began at 7.30 am and the 3 km event began at 9am.
A presentation was held after the 8 km event to award the winners of each category.
