Lightning strike knocks out power in Miriam Vale

LIGHTNING activity in the Miriam Vale area knocked out power to 983 customers on Sunday just before 11.30pm.

Ergon Energy area operations manager Brian Dingle said Miriam Vale, Bororen, Turkey Beach and surrounding areas had been affected after lightning struck power lines near the main line supplying the area between Miriam Vale and Bororen.

Crews worked into the night and reinstated power to Miriam Vale two hours later, with remaining customers going back on line by 7.10am on Monday after the damaged power lines were repaired.

"Identifying the fault which occurred, in off road conditions at night time, contributed to the length of time customers were off line," Mr Dingle said.

He thanked customers for their patience and understanding.
