Libraries to close on Sundays because of penalty rates

LIBRARIES in Gladstone and Boyne Island will no longer be open on Sundays.

Gladstone Regional Council decided today the cost of wages was too high because staff are paid at double time.

Both libraries have been open from Monday to Sunday - with Sunday hours from 9am to 3pm.

Keeping the libraries open on Saturday but closing Sunday will save the council $154,745 in electricity and wages.

The new hours will kick in next financial year as part of the council's Target Zero Budget strategy - to deliver a 0% rate rise next budget.
