Letter: Pregnant women should never be turned away

Letter to the editor from Brian Ross, of Gladstone.

RE THE Observer story Mum gives birth three hours after hospital sends her home (August 4).

When a young mum with a bad history of pregnancy presents at the Gladstone Hospital at 1am and then, after consulting a doctor, the woman is sent home that night, one must wonder what is wrong with the public system.

Plus the management seems to have a very risky policy as a guide for staff no matter the time of night.

The patient must have a say.

A pregnant woman should never be turned away, or a child, as happened at the Gold Coast with a tragic outcome.
