Learn to rock the dance floor

IT'S the news that could just rock your socks off.

Gladstone Rock N Roll dance club Just Rock will begin regular rock'n'roll classes from Tuesday for all those interested in learning some new dance skills or polishing up on their old dance moves.

Rockabilly beginners' classes will be hosted at the Gladstone Bowls Club, Ferris St, from 7pm-7.30pm with a half-hour practice session running from 7.30pm.

It is an eight-week stint of lessons instructed by Just Rock Gladstone members Cheryl and Lynton Hannant.

Cost is $5 per lesson and all you need to bring along is some smooth-soled shoes or thick socks.

Ms Hannant said everyone was welcome to come along and join in the fun and make some new friends.

She said if you were looking for fun and fitness, come and have a go.

"The lessons will cover the whole culture and music of rockabilly," Ms Hannant said.

"There is a lot of spinning in rockabilly.

"It has a lot of attitude and is faster paced."

Ms Hannant said the lessons would start at the basics and take participants steadily through learning basic beat, footwork and basic spins and turns like Hello Sweetheart.

She said they would dance to some good 1950s rock'n'roll.

Intermediate classes will also be hosted on a Tuesday night from 7.30pm-9pm followed by free dance time.

Those interested in registering or finding out further information can phone Lynton on 0417 232 329 or Cheryl on 4975 1213 (after 7pm) or visit www.justrockgladstone. org.au.
