Lawrence Springborg shows strong support for Campbell Newman
HEALTH Minister Lawrence Springborg has hosed down any suggestion he should take over the LNP reins in Queensland.
He said Premier Campbell Newman had shown stronger leadership than any of his predecessor Labor premiers.
Mr Springborg was responding to suggestions from Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk on Tuesday that he might be the only person who could hold the party together amid a raft of internal conflict.
As well as controversy surrounding a number of ministers, LNP member and mining magnate Clive Palmer had just called on the backbenchers to revolt against Mr Newman, his deputy and treasurer who he says should not be running the state.
Mr Springborg said he was dedicated to correcting the health payroll debacle and getting health back on track in Queensland.
"When it comes to the allegations against (Housing Minister) Bruce Flegg, yes we have confidence and I don't think people should be running around in such a summary way jumping to conclusions," he said.
"What we have got is a lot of spectacular sensationalist, carry-on at this stage, nothing is proven."
