Last-minute carport faces council axe

THE fate of a $30,000 carport in a prestigious Coast suburb is set to be decided when Sunshine Coast Council has its first public meeting of the year.

The unapproved improvement to former Maroochy Surf Club president Tim Ryan's Mooloolaba home first came before councillors in June last year.

It reaches to within less than a metre of the Carwoola Crescent road frontage boundary in lieu of the council's six-metre required set-back.

The last-minute addition to a 2016 home rebuild at the waterfront property was brought to the council's attention through a complaint.

Councillors resolved last June to investigate the matter further but a report tabled for Thursday's meeting has recommended an identical outcome to that of seven months ago- that it not be approved.

Mr Ryan said last year that he hoped he would not have to pull the carport down.

The Daily was unable to contact him for further comment on Monday.

Meanwhile, a move to sell a former school master's residence property on School Road at Bli Bli will also be discussed at Thursday's meeting.

The council-owned land was offered at auction last month but did not sell.

Councillors will decide whether or not the blocks should be listed with agents for sale by negotiation.
