Last Aussie hope Nick Kyrgios bows out to Andy Murray

AUSTRALIAN Nick Kyrgios's fairytale run at the Australian Open has come to an end, but not without putting up a spirited fight against two-time grand slam winner Andy Murray.

Murray disposed of the 19-year-old 6-3 7-6 6-3 to advance to the semi-final stage, where he will take on Czech Tomas Berdych.

Kyrgios, the first teenager to make two grand slam quarter-finals since Roger Federer in 2001, can hold his head high though.

The Scot only broke the precocious young talent's serve three times throughout the match.

His first put him up 4-2 in the first set, frustrating the Canberra product in a rally, before the host pinged a forehand wide.

The second set was a nail-biter, with Murray surging past his opponent after Kyrgios held a 4-3 lead in the tie-breaker.

Murray then broke the tiring Aussie twice in the third set.
