Labor promises to 'throw everything' at Gladstone

WHILE the LNP is yet to announce a Gladstone candidate, Labor has promised to "throw everything" at winning the seat.

Speaking in Cairns yesterday, Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk said she would be campaigning in Gladstone and praised candidate Glenn Butcher.

"We're going to throw everything at (Gladstone)," she said.

"We're going to be working really hard.

"Glenn is a great candidate down there. I've been there campaigning with him in the past and I'll be back in Gladstone during this election campaign."

Ms Palaszczuk paid tribute to outgoing independent MP Liz Cunningham - who announced on Tuesday she would not be seeking re-election - praising her local knowledge and dedication to the electorate.

"I've always found Liz a person who I respect. She always was commenting on different pieces of legislation, she was across her issues.

"Liz Cunningham has done a lot for Gladstone and I wish her well in her retirement."

The LNP is yet to announce a Gladstone candidate. Premier Campbell Newman said on Wednesday he would like to run a candidate in the seat, however, it was an issue for the party executive and out of his hands.
