FOR Kristy-Lee Rankin, the decision to move to Gladstone was one from the heart.
The 22-year-old left her family and friends behind in Bundaberg in July to pursue a career in personal training and to be reunited with her boyfriend Adam.
"Adam and I had been together for more than one year and he moved over to the island to work, but after three months I couldn't take it and moved here to join him," she said.
"I grew up in Bundy so it made leaving hard, and I am lonely sometimes because Adam works six days a week, but it's worth it and I'm a great girlfriend."
Since Ms Rankin moved here she has taken up the position of personal trainer and masseuse at Gladstone Physio and Fitness and she loves it.
"I was over in Bali at the time the job was posted and I called up and was like, no, hold the interviews, and I got it," she said.
"I love the work I do, so much so that I am going back to uni this year to either study medical science specialising in either sinography or teaching."
On weekends Ms Rankin said she and Adam enjoyed four-wheel driving and Sunday adventure trips away in preference to the nightlife in town.
"I've been out one night to Lightbox for our work Christmas party, but it's not really my thing," she said.
"I much prefer working out, drinking coffee or playing with our two staffy pups, which is good stress relief."
The couple said they had a great place in town and planned to live here for some years.
"Hopefully once work on the island dries up Adam will get a job with Arrow," she said. "It's hard living between towns, but we make it work."
