Kirsty's Flames narrowly miss grand glory at U15 champs
SOFTBALL: Gladstone's Kirsty Lester was a part of the Queensland Flames side that narrowly missed out on the Under-15 Girls Regional championships in Perth.
Flames were beaten 5-4 in the decider against New South Wales Metro Green.
New South Wales sealed the win with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
That was when Grace Prior had completed the winning run after NSW batter Matilda Gibbons' hit to centre-left in the tie-breaker.
Despite the loss, Kirsty said she would benefit greatly with her own game moving forward.
"Playing in this has definitely been a highlight," she said of the thrilling decider.
"We had to beat NSW Metro Orange, who have not lost a game, to get into the grand final and we did."
Kirsty played as first base and as an occasional pitcher.
"I played at first base in the grand final and was really pleased with how I played and I stopped a lot of hits," she said.
"I've learnt so much and my batting has improved as well."
