Kin Kora roundabout replacement starts
The first sod was turned this morning on the project to replace the Kin Kora roundabout with traffic lights.
State MP Glenn Butcher and federal MP Ken O'Dowd were on hand with their shiny spade to mark the occasion, along with representatives from Transport and Main Roads and contractors.
The $25 million project has been jointly funded by the federal and state governments, with both providing $12.5 million.
Preliminary works was done last year to redirect underground services,
The main project will get under way tomorrow when machinery arrives to remove the roundabout.
About 45,000 vehicles pass through the Phillip St, Dawson Hwy intersection every day.
The project is expected to be finished in early 2016.
Although the intersection will remain open during construction, there will be some delays.
