Khy relishes nippers opportunities

OPPORTUNITIES and a zest for life have prompted Khy Smart into the world of nippers.

The warmer weather, surf and beaches have been a welcome part of the under-13 nipper's lifestyle since his dad, Matthew, was offered a job with Bechtel.

"I joined up in 2014 and it is my fifth year of nippers since coming here from Port Fairy in Victoria," Smart said.

"I like the opportunities."

One of those is the four-point carnival in Yeppoon on the last day of January and a much bigger competition in March.

"The main focus is for the states in March in North Burleigh and the surf is a lot bigger there than here," Smart said.

Smart and 39 other nippers are preparing to adapt to these conditions with training and team bonding sessions..

"There is a development training camp on the Sunshine Coast," Smart said.
