THE voice of the people can be hard to grasp, especially in the world of politics.

Federal Member for Flynn Ken O'Dowd has just completed a survey of his electorate to figure out exactly what people are worried about.

Mr O'Dowd said some key issues came up in the feedback.

The main issues nominated by residents, in order, were the carbon tax, asylum seekers, roads, medical services, standards of behaviour in parliament, communications (including NBN), the NDIS and the Gonski review into education.

Mr O'Dowd said the feedback had been largely what he had expected, although he was surprised more people had not ticked "cost of living" as an issue of concern.

The number one ranking of the carbon tax as an issue did not surprise Mr O'Dowd.

The survey was dropped in residents' letterboxes around the electorate and listed 13 issues to choose from.
