NAMED after Kelly Slater, Blake and Lucy Tufrey's first born is bound to be a cool little dude.

Kelly Tufrey was born at the Gladstone Hospital on July 26, weighing 4020g.

Lucy said she could already see the resemblances between the bub and his father.

"It's just his round face and nose I think," she said.

And one day, he could be a little surfer like Blake.

"Blake's a surfer, so when we were thinking of names we thought of Kelly Slater.

"We thought that it was pretty fitting," she said.

The couple went through the Gladstone Hospital's midwifery group practice.

And Lucy had an extra special bond with one of the midwives.

"My best friend Cian is one of the midwives in the practice - she was there during the birth.

"It was really good to have her there," she said.

Lucy and Blake have lived in the Gladstone region for more than 15 years.

She said already Kelly had plenty of visitors.

He is the first grandchild for Blake's parents and the eighth for Lucy's.

Lucy said her first pregnancy was a good one.

"It all went very smoothly - it was quite an easy pregnancy, except for the labour," she said.

The pair looked forward to taking their son home today.

"He was 10 days overdue, so we were very ready.

"We have his nursery set up in navy colours, it's not too boyish, but not girly; just like his name," she said.
