Keen rockers roll into town with classic cars on show

TRAVELLING from Rockhampton and as far as Bundaberg, a convoy of classic cars and their owners cruised to Calliope to display their rides and enjoy an afternoon of rock 'n' roll on the weekend.

About 42 people attended the event at the Diggers Arms Hotel on Saturday afternoon.

Among the models rolling up were an old Valiant, a 1966 Mustang, a 1958 Buick and a Corvette.

Geoff Peepall from Just Rock Gladstone said they could have done with a few more numbers but overall it was a good turnout.

Just over $200 was raised from the event, which will be donated to Legacy.

"We raised a bit of money for Legacy, which was good," he said. "We do a lot of raising money for local causes.

"We meet reasonably regularly to enjoy rock'n'roll music and dancing.

"We also have gigs with live bands on occasions plus general rock music nights."

The next major fundraiser is scheduled for August 8, with proceeds going to Camp Quality.

The night will feature bands Jimi Hermel and The Hot Chix.
