Karaoke king loves time in the spotlight

WARREN Hudson will walk on stage at the Queens Hotel tonight and become George - a karaoke-crazed singer with a passion for pleasing the crowd.

George first sang karaoke two weeks after his 18th birthday in 2008 at the Rocky Glen Hotel and he has been hooked on it ever since.

Now he's a regular fixture every Thursday for karaoke, and most nights he doesn't even drink.

He said he had always sung along to the radio and this just allowed him to do it in front of a crowd.

"I prefer singing in front of a lot of people I don't know," he said.

"I know they are not going to come up to me and go that was crap or that was awesome. They just listen."

George's aunt often joins him at karaoke and offers some support.

"We are both very competitive," he said. "She gives me support but she also criticises me a lot about my song choices."

For first-time singers, George recommends choosing crowd-pleasing songs.

"Get up and have fun. As long as people have fun, that's all that really matters," he said.

George's top 5 hits:

  • Cryptonite, Three Doors Down
  • The Man, Aloe Blacc
  • It's My Life, Bon Jovi
  • Pompeii, Bastille
  • Ain't Going Down 'til The Sun Comes Up, Garth Brooks
