Jurassic World tops global box office
JURASSIC World has clawed its way to the top of the movie food chain.
The film's opening weekend has broken global box office records.
Universal Pictures has confirmed the film earned an estimated $524.1 million worldwide, surpassing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 as the highest grossing opening weekend of all time.
It is also the first time a film has earned more than $500 million in a single weekend.
The Jurassic Park reboot earned $16.06 million in Australia, easily knocking Entourage off its perch and raking in more in just one weekend than the comedy Spy has in the past month.
In the US alone Jurassic World earned $208 million, surpassing the previous opening weekend record set by The Avengers in 2012.
Director Colin Trevorrow tweeted a simple "thank you" yesterday as the opening weekend numbers began to roll in.
The film had a $150 million US budget and was co-produced by Jurassic Park director Steve Spielberg.
