Juniors pocket high finishes in championships
EIGHTBALL: Several of Gladstone's best eightball players have risen up to the challenge at the recent Queensland Junior Championships held in Redcliffe.
Billy Browne, Harry Connell, Kain Stone and Alex Wright all achieved high rankings in the tournament with Billy finishing runner-up in the under 12 category.
The youngster accumulated 11 wins from 13 matches.
Gladstone Eightball Association president Sandie Wright says what Billy did was great because it was his first year in the sport.
Under 18 pair Kain and Alex finished strongly with rankings sixth and fifth respectively while under 15 player Harry was fifth in his age group.
"As this is our second year of having junior's play within our association, we are very proud that we were able to give these players an opportunity to help further develop their skills and love of this game,” Sandie Wright said. "We are so proud of these boys. Real champions.”
Alex finished in equal fourth spot, but finished in fifth place after a count-back after his six wins from 10 games. Kain split his win-loss ratio with five and five during his campaign.
"These results just goes to show how well our Junior players performed over the weekend and they deserve our congratulations,” Wright said.
"Everyone should be very proud of their achievements and in how well they represented not only our association, but also Gladstone.
"They did us all proud and are all winners in our eyes.”
Meanwhile the top two players in the under 12s, under 15s and under 18s girls and the top three in the under 18 boys will make up the Queensland side to play in the Junior Nationals from January 14-22 in Darwin.
