Junior events draw big numbers over weekend
GOLF: It was a huge weekend for Central Queensland young golfers in what was perfect weather.
Following on from Isaak Jensen's win in the Miriam Vale Junior Open on Saturday, a field of 75 players competed at the Gladstone Junior Open on Sunday.
Capricorn Resort's Ben Scott shot a one over par 73 to win the Gladstone event and he was one stroke ahead of Quinn Stover of Yeppoon with Isaak third (75).
In a big weekend of women's achievements, Mackay's Ashlee Knight won both the Miriam Vale and Gladstone junior titles.
There was some success for the Gladstone region where Miriam Vale young gun Cody Anderson survived a play-off to win the boy's 13-hole division from Bundaberg's Anthony Stockhill when both players carded a 78 gross score.
Boyne Island's Tayla Colley's 82 was enough to edge her sister Grace in the girls' 13-hole division.
Gladstone's Ayden Bye (50) also had to survive a play-off to win from Rockhampton's Zane Blackborough, with Gracemere's Ammeliah Means' 64 score enough to win the girls' nine-hole class event from Baralaba's Anneliese Taylor (65).
Gladstone, Calliope and Boyne Island dominated the six and three-hole grades. Liam Callow beat Calliope's Parks Laverty by five shots in the boys' six-hole division and Linzi McBean won the girls' equivalent from fellow Gladstone member Finn Robinson.
Boyne Island's Aiden Gaffey (23) won the boys' three-hole division and Kate Taylor (22) won the girls' event from Wowan's Holly Vickers 26.
