Times gone by: QCWA celebrates significant milestone

July 24, 1947: Calliope CWA:

Some survey work has been done in connection with the allotment for the new rest rooms.

The birthday party on July 5 was a decided success.

A letter from the founder of the branch, Mrs E Farmer enclosing a donation of one guinea unfortunately arrived just too late to be read at the party.

Letters of appreciation had been received from past presidents thanking the branch for the birthday cake and the gift of a linen handkerchief.

A special vote of thanks was recorded at the meeting to Mrs Howard for making and donating the birthday cake, to Mrs D Small for icing the cake free of charge, to Mesdames Howard and Eves for making and supplying sandwiches to the party, to Mrs Hancock sweets and writing paper, and to Mrs Ferguson for setting the tables of the party.

1971: West Gladstone school teacher, Denise Etherington was married to Gladstone State High School teacher Telman Lecatsas in a traditional Greek wedding ceremony in St George Greek Orthodox Church in Brisbane on Wednesday night.

A record crowd attended the cabaret in the Jet Lounge Queen's Hotel on Saturday.
