Johnathan Thurston signs $1m Cowboys contract
JOHNATHAN Thurston is on the verge of inking his final NRL contract - a $1 million deal to finish his glittering career at the Cowboys.
It can be revealed the Cowboys will put aside the uncertainty over the salary cap and Collective Bargaining Agreement talks to secure Thurston to a 12-month extension.
"I haven't taken Johnathan to the open market. He will finish his career a Cowboy and so he should," Thurston's manager Sam Ayoub said.
Ayoub and Cowboys recruitment chief Peter Parr met for a decisive round of negotiations last Thursday night.
The parties agreed in principle to several facets of Thurston's new deal, with the Cowboys now working to determine how much of their champion's salary will be included in the salary cap.
