Jobs go to locals

SIXTY-ONE percent of workers on Bechtel's LNG projects are locals.

The construction giant, which is building three LNG plants on Curtis Island, supplied the figures in response to questions about the sourcing of its workforce.

Bechtel said the figure of 61% was good given the nature of its projects and the skill set required. Thirty-seven percent are non-local, while 2% are expats.

In early December, Bechtel had a total of 3707 workers on its projects. That included workers employed directly by Bechtel, as well as contractors.

Of the workers hired directly by Bechtel for manual professions, 86% on the QCLNG project are local, 97% on APLNG and 97% on GLNG.
