HER voice has made her into an international success, but Australian-born artist Jessica Mauboy will never forget her true Aussie roots.
The successful artist begins her Australian national tour, To The End Of The Earth, on Thursday, kicking off at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. The tour will include stops in Rockhampton and Bundaberg.
Her musical journey began in 2006 with Australian Idol that started with an audition tape filmed in the Australian desert of Alice Springs.
Today, she is a star in many eyes - even America's Ellen DeGeneres, who invited Jessica to appear on The Ellen Show earlier this year.
The superstar was nominated for Best Female Artist at the 2013 ARIA Awards and continues to gain a vast fan base wherever she goes.
This week The Gladstone Observer asks Jessica a few questions:
What do you love most about music?
Music is just a part of who I am - it makes me happy and I couldn't imagine it not being a part of my life.
How do you feel when you look back to where you were before Australian Idol and your blast with fame?
I feel so blessed to have had such an incredible journey. I feel so grateful to be able to do what I love every day.
Who do you look up to in the Australian music industry?
So many people both inside and outside the industry inspire me every day. One of my musical idols is Mariah Carey, and I am inspired by the kids at the Yipirinya school where I am an ambassador.
How do you care for your vocal cords and ensure you stay physically well for tours?
I make sure I stay fit and healthy - running will get me in shape for the enduring tour and also clears my head. I also have to ensure I look after my voice and there's only one way to do this - no talking!
Where do you think you will be in five years?
I will be continuing to sing no matter what. Who knows, maybe more film opportunities will come my way - either way I am excited about what the future brings.
If you could pick one of your songs - which would be your favourite?
Been Waiting will always hold a special place in my heart, as do all my old tracks.
