Jason Day has a shot at eighth PGA Tour win

GOLF: Australia’s world No.1 Jason Day had a share of the lead going into the final round at the World Golf Championships Invitational in Akron, Ohio.

The 28-year-old shot a round of 69 for a five-under total after three rounds to be on top with American Scott Piercy after he fired a 67.

Adam Scott is tied for 18th place on two-over following his three-over 73 in the third round.

Day only hit three fairways but scrambled well enough on the difficult Firestone Country Club course.

The co-leaders have a one-stroke lead over Swede David Lingmerth (69), with American Brian Stuard (67) two behind.

Day is searching for an eighth win on the PGA Tour in the past 12 months and is also eyeing another major with the British Open at Troon up next in two weeks.

He would like to find some form but said he was finding the schedule a little hectic.

“I’m pretty exhausted right now. I hope I find something in my sleep,” he said.

US Open champion Dustin Johnson fired the day’s low round of 66 to move up 17 spots and into a tie for fifth with South African Charl Schwartzel (67) and American William McGirt (70), three strokes off the pace.
